Black Pioneers in Oregon: A Traveling Exhibit

Come check out The Black Pioneers, a traveling exhibit by Oregon Black Pioneers, now on display upstairs at the Main Library! Visit this February to explore a powerful piece of Oregon history. This exhibit was made possible through sponsorship by local Black-led organization KinCultivate.

The Black Pioneers exhibit highlights the stories of Oregon’s earliest Black settlers, both free and enslaved. On display throughout February in honor of Black History Month, the exhibit explores how Black pioneers challenged Oregon’s discriminatory laws and helped lay the foundation for Black communities across the state.

Be sure to read about local figures Amanda Gardner and Ben Johnson. To learn more about KinCultivate, visit kincultivate.org.
